Peet & Paloma Solleveld Maasdijk,
“a unique Royal Couple”
In the Fond toppers auction held this winter, by and on TopPigeons, it would have been unthinkable that this partnership consisting of Peet and his daughter Paloma Solleveld from Maasdijk would not be present. We are really delighted to be able to present you an auction of Long distance toppers containing several pigeons of this father/daughter partnership from Maasdijk in the province of South-Holland.
Peet Solleveld.
Who does not know this man? While most of us rolled into the pigeon sport through our fathers, Peet got acquainted to the love of the sport through Mother Solleveld. As it turned out they were prophetic words from the late Maarten Vellekoop from Maasdijk years ago when Peet was presented his first trophy, “Ladies and gentlemen, this could be the beginning of something big ”. In short we can state of Peet, he came, he saw and he conquered.
A short retrospect.
Peet who at that time raced pigeons along with his father and had always done well in the sport. In de late seventies a partnership was formed called Sol-Stra-Sol. A champion formation that to this day is still talked about with respect. In the beginning they raced the club races before taking the step to the long distance where in 1991 their first title was won. The partnership was crowned 1st Champion Long Distance of the Kuststrook (Coast Strip). In 1993 they were proud to win it again but in that same year they also won the West Netherlands Marathon. The secret was possessing good pigeons and an excellent fancier to manage them. The following years proved the point that Peet is an excellent fancier.
In the mid-ninety’s a new partnership was formed named Solleveld-Holstijn. Straight from the beginning until the passing away of John Holstein (May 2002) these have been the fanciers to beat in their region the Westland. Unbelievable results were achieved and to cap it all the winning of the 1st Super Long Distance championship of South-Holland that at the time consisted of only one federation.
An era ends and a new one begins.
After the death of friend John Holstijn it was the end of racing from that location and it forced Peet to make a complete re-start. All pigeons that were present at the time were auctioned off with exception of the best stock birds.
The new begin.
If the necessary quality is present and there is a good fancier that is capable of getting the best out of the pigeons, it is purely a question of time getting back to the same performance level. Peet did not give the opposition much time to recover because within a very short space of time since the new begin he was back. It was also in this period that his daughter named Paloma became interested in the pigeons and a new partnership was created. Seeds must be sown before the crop can be reaped. But anno 2007 it was as clear as crystal to everyone, “He is back”.

A loft, formed purely from and only from sublime pigeons.
It is much easier to become champion that to remain a champion. This is a fact, but to keep achieving it after several new starts down the years proves that it can be done if the fancier has it in his fingers and possesses a superior strain of pigeons.
Down the years the loft of pigeons of Peet and Paloma have been formed on the following strains. There are pigeons present from the lines of Aarden-, Braakhuis-, Brassé- and Florizoone pigeons. I can remember as if it was yesterday that Peet Solleveld, the late John Holstein and myself made the journey to the Belgian town of Nieuwpoort on a warm summer day in 2001. The partners spent a small fortune on a round of youngsters from the stock loft of Florizoone. These pigeons were, as were the birds from friend Heintje Brassé and the Braakhuis pigeons before them, cross bred with the pigeons of the legendary Willem Peeman which is where birds like the illustrious “Rooie Willem” descended from. “Rooie Willem”, a half-brother of the 1st National Bordeaux in 1985 revealed himself to be the base pigeon of the Solleveld lofts.
Knowing Peet well, I am absolutely sure that he has done his best to bred some special pigeons for your benefit in an auction arranged by and offered to you by TopPigeons.
