In 1980 we bought hotel “De Langen Akker” in Berg en Terblijt. Around that time several pigeon fanciers came to visit our pub. The numerous stories these men told interested me and combined with my childhood experiences going back to around 1960, when I often watched neighbour Dorus’s pigeons, this made me decide to start being active in the pigeon racing sport in 1983.
I started on short and middle distance and although the time I could spend with my pigeons was limited (I was co-owner of the hotel and manager of a bank office), I succeeded in gaining good results.
The local pigeon racing club ‘PDV Berg en Dal’ was looking for a new accommodation in 1984 and, as you might have guessed, hotel “De Langen Akker” was chosen.
In 1989 we sold the hotel. At that time we had already moved to our current address.
Long distance
In 1997 I decided to start racing the long distance. Through the years I had contacted Jo Lardenoye, Roger Wijnands, Math Duykers, close friend to Antoon en Lucie v/d Wegen.
In spite of my busy life, I gained good results, with a 4th price national Bordeaux 2004 as the high point.
In 2006 I asked Jo Lardenoye to take care of my pigeons in the mornings. Because of the founding of several businesses in project development, combined with a part time job at the bank, good performances would have been very hard to create without help. The maestro agreed and his driven attitude and knowledge got me more motivated then ever.
We did not have to wait long for good results! What do you think of this series of top pigeons:

Pedigree
For many years I bought youngsters of all top pigeons of Wijnands en Zn.. Among others offspring of:
”Gouden Barcelona”,” Broer Armstrong”, ’’Broer Champ’’, ’’Marseille 325’’, ’’Pozzato’’, ’’Bonte Kipp’’,’’Olano’’,’’Gimondi’’,’’Blauwe v Oppen’’, etcetera.
From the excellent racing Belgian combination Depasse-Lardenoye came youngsters of all top breeding pigeons:
’’Di Stefano’’ 1st Ace pigeon long distance in Belgium, ’’Kleine Turbo’’, multiple outstanding performances on Barcelona and Perpignan, of his brother ’’ Beauty Turbo’’ and of the absolute top breeder ’’Frazette’’, father, grandfather and great-grandfather of several high quality racing pigeons, I took youngsters to Berg en Terblijt.
From Math Duijkers came pigeons, of his direct descendant of Lucie en Anton van der Wegen.
Especially the cross bred Wijnands en Zn. - Depasse-Lardenoye turned out to be a success. The results of this crossing: 3rd, 21st, 30th and 15th National. And all of this during the last 2 years!!
These results should be able to provide confidence for the years to come. |
